The SciComm Boot Camp (SCBC) is a 2-day professional development workshop founded in 2019 and designed to bridge the communication gap between scientists and the public, policymakers, students, and professionals from other disciplines. Though this program was initially design with anatomists in mind, you do not need to be an anatomist to attend! This program is open and beneficial to anyone involved in the scientific community.
The SCBC equips participants with effective science communication strategies and skills, enabling them to engage diverse audiences meaningfully. Training includes applied improvisational theater techniques to connect effectively with audiences, distill complex scientific concepts into understandable language, and use storytelling as a mechanism for effective communication. The SCBC will focus on two aspects of application of effective communication the last day of the workshop: science podcasting and communication with policymakers.
