FASEB Submits Comments to NIH OLAW Cephalopod RFI

On December 7, FASEB submitted comments to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Laboratory Welfare (OLAW) in response to its Request for Information (RFI) on proposed guidance on cephalopod care and use. 

FASEB's comments express support for the oversight of cephalopods in research but recommend NIH provide commensurate support to address outstanding knowledge gaps in cephalopod biology and welfare. For example, dedicated funding mechanisms for cephalopod research and veterinary training and education grants (R25s) will ensure the science community is equipped with concrete evidence and resources to conduct and oversee this emerging field of research.
