To help scientists access advanced instrumentation for research, FASEB updated and reissued its report, “Instrumentation: Federal Grants and Programs for the Life Sciences.”

First released in 2016, this FASEB resource offers summary information about federal agency support for instrument acquisition, access, and development. In addition to updating program descriptions, the revised report also presents:

  • Current funding data from FY 2017
  • Three new grant programs
  • Best practices for developing a shared instrumentation proposal.

To extend the value of research funding, most of these programs support multi-user configurations — from shared equipment to user and core facilities. This approach increases access to instruments that are beyond the budget of a typical research grant, thus expanding research opportunities. Access the report via FASEB’s Shared Resources webpage, or click here to view the full PDF document.
