Implemented for all research grants submitted on or after January 25, 2023, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Data Management and Sharing policy requires all grant applications or renewals that generate scientific data to include a robust and detailed plan for managing and sharing data throughout the entire funding period. To help researchers comply with this policy, FASEB DataWorks! Help Desk provides self-serve resources – including comprehensive how-to guides, video recordings, and blog articles – to address immediate questions and develop longer-term best practices in data management within a research team.

Two recent Help Desk blog posts, NIH Feedback One Year After Implementation of the DMS Policy, and Top 6 DataWorks! How-to Guides for Preparing an NIH Data Management and Sharing Plan provide specific tips for creating a successful data management plan. Both posts include links to the January 2024 DataWorks! Salon, during which Valerie Cotton, Deputy Director of Data Science and Sharing within NIH’s National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, shared lessons learned from the first year of implementing the NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy.
