FASEB Submits Testimony to Congress on FY 2020 Funding for Research Agencies
Wednesday, April 17, 2019FASEB submitted written testimony to the House Appropriations Committee as they begin consideration of the fiscal year (FY) 2020 spending bills. The testimony provides Congress with FASEB’s FY 2020 funding recommendations for key scientific agencies that fund biological and biomedical research as follows:
NIH
- National Institutes of Health (NIH) – the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Subcommittee should provide at least $41.6 billion for NIH
NSF
- National Science Foundation (NSF) – the Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee should provide at least $9 billion for NSF
VA
- Veterans Affairs Medical & Prosthetic Research Program – the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Subcommittee should provide at least $840 million for the Medical and Prosthetic Research Program
USDA
- US Department of Agriculture (USDA) – the Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee should provide at least $700 million for the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative at the USDA
DOE
- Department of Energy Office of Science (DOE SC) – the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee should provide at least $7 billion for DOE SC
Identical testimony will be submitted to the Senate Appropriations Committee in June.
