FASEB Submits Feedback on NIH Interim Recommendations to Prevent Sexual Harassment

Thursday, October 3, 2019
On October 3, FASEB submitted comments to the Advisory Committee to the Director (ACD) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) on the four interim recommendations presented by the Working Group on Changing the Culture to End Sexual Harassment during its June 2019 meeting.

In its comments, FASEB expressed support for the Working Group’s efforts to develop and implement approaches aimed at preventing incidents of sexual harassment and enhancing resources and support for survivors of harassment at institutions receiving grant support from NIH. The Working Group’s efforts supplement initiatives already underway at NIH to improve mechanisms for reporting professional misconduct to the agency and more effectively work with funded institutions to address inappropriate behaviors. FASEB’s comments also articulated overarching concerns about the lack of details within the interim recommendations regarding implementation and offered suggestions to address these gaps.

The Working Group is expected to issue its final report and recommendations to the ACD in December.
