FASEB & NIH NIGMS Present: Diversifying the Research Organism Landscape Webinar

Monday, January 6, 2020
FASEB and NIH NIGMS will present a webinar on "Diversifying the Research Organism Landscape" on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 from 2:00-3:00pm (ET). Presenters will include Dorit Zuk, PhD, Division Director of Genetics and Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology of NIH NIGMS, Emma Farley, PhD, Assistant Professor of University of California San Diego School of Medicine and Wallace Marshall, PhD of University of California San Francisco. The webinar will cover the important question of "Are we leading with a scientific question first or do we select the research organism we know to tailor the research according to the model's characteristics?" when designing a research project. The webinar will explore these subtle, yet very distinct research approaches, and explain the importance of selecting the appropriate organism for various research topics. Participants will share examples from their research using lesser-known species, and discuss the opportunities and challenges associated with studying a variety of research organisms.
