Hidden from public view, surrounded by sophisticated equipment, wearing safety goggles and lab coats, are the nation’s most unexpected artists: biological and biomedical researchers.

Whether they’re conducting basic research or exploring the clinical application of a promising finding, scientists regularly produce images, photographs, and videos as a part of their work. Now in its seventh year, the FASEB BioArt Competition was launched to showcase the biomedical community’s stunning visuals, thus captivating public attention and fostering greater interest in research.

Each BioArt submission helps inspire curiosity about the life sciences, increases awareness about the role of basic research in developing life-saving advances, and generates broader support for biomedical research and the scientists behind it.

FASEB strongly encourages researchers at every level, from students to expert investigators, to participate in this year’s competition. Submissions are accepted from July 10 through August 30 across four categories:

  • fluorescence or electron microscopy;
  • three-dimensional printing;
  • video; and
  • all other life science images.

Entries can include original photographs, illustrations, data visualizations, or videos created as a part of research supported by U.S. federal funding or conducted by members of a FASEB society.
