By: CJ NeelyThursday, June 11, 2026
This year, the scientific community will celebrate National Postdoc Appreciation Week (NPAW) September 21–25, 2026. Since 2009, NPAW has recognized the important contributions postdoctoral scholars make to research, innovation, and the broader scientific enterprise.
This year's theme, "150 Years of the U.S. Postdoc," marks a significant milestone in the history of the research workforce. The first recorded postdoctoral position in the United States dates to 1876 at Johns Hopkins University, highlighting the enduring impact of postdoctoral scholars on scientific discovery and advancement.
NPAW 2026 will feature the sixth annual virtual, multi-institutional celebration, offering professional development, networking, and community-building opportunities for postdocs across institutions. Organizations planning to host virtual events that are open to the public are encouraged to submit event information by September 14 for inclusion in the national NPAW event calendar.
Additional information, resources, and event details will be available through the NPA website.
