OLAW Website Moves to NIH Grants and Funding Site
By: Galen CobbWednesday, April 22, 2026
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has migrated the Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW) website to NIH's grants and funding information site. Researchers and institutions who relied on the former standalone site will find OLAW's resources at: https://grants.nih.gov/policy-and-compliance/policy-topics/animal-welfare.
The new site reorganized OLAW's resources to reduce redundancy and improve navigation compared to the former standalone site. However, regulatory resources that investigators commonly rely on — including study proposal templates, MOU examples, and semiannual review checklists — are now housed under sections within "Welfare and Compliance Topics" without prominent signposting on the main page, which may make these resources more difficult to locate.
The dedicated list of Guide notices maintained on the former OLAW site is not available on the new site. Guide notices are NIH's mechanism for announcing agency-specific policies and clarifying how the agency interprets and applies laws and regulations, including those governing animal research. The former site's curated list served as a longitudinal record of policy developments in this area. Researchers seeking a copy of the curated list may contact FASEB at gcobb@faseb.org.
