By: Nabila RiazWednesday, January 8, 2025
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) has issued a call for nominations of 10 to 12 experts to contribute to the development of an updated edition of On Being a Scientist: An Updated and Online Guide to the Responsible and Ethical Conduct of Research. This new version will be built on the 2009 edition, which served as an introductory guide for graduate students and early-career researchers.
The updated guide will reflect changes in the national and international research enterprise, focusing on the conduct of research and addressing professional conduct that hinders research talent and advancement. The development process will include three key revisions:
- Updating current best practices and experiences in research.
- Expanding and elaborating on specific topics, such as sexual harassment, mentoring, research reproducibility, and research security.
- Ensuring the guide is accessible, online, and user-friendly.
