FASEB Leadership and Staff

As Executive Director and CEO, Frank Krause focuses on fulfilling FASEB’s strategic plan and amplifying the collective voice of the federation’s 26 member societies through joint advocacy and promotion. He has led FASEB’s multimillion dollar investments in DEI and Open Science program development. 

Frank has been in the association industry for almost 20 years. Prior to joining FASEB, he was COO of the American Geophysical Union, leading strategic transformations of its publishing, meeting, and technology groups while driving culture change and international growth. 

He received his Master of Business Administration degree from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
 

With a career focused exclusively on nonprofits and spanning nearly 30 years, Julie Jones brings a wealth of experience, knowledge, and insight to her role as FASEB’s outsourced CFO.  A leader in Marcum’s Managed Accounting Services, clients count on her guidance and consider her a true partner in advancing their mission. 

Julie is frequently sought as a guest speaker for client, professional, and academic conferences and was recently recognized for her exceptional contributions to the accounting industry with the 2023 GWSCPA
Women's Innovator Award. She earned a BS in accounting from Virginia Tech and is a CPA and member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
 

Jennifer Zeitzer works with a team of policy analysts, legislative affairs specialists, and the elected leadership of FASEB and its member societies to develop policies to increase federal support for biomedical research and conveys them to Congress and federal agencies. She also coordinates FASEB’s advocacy efforts with coalition partners in the biomedical and scientific research community.  

Prior to joining FASEB in 2008, Zeitzer was director of congressional relations at the Alzheimer’s Association. She has a bachelor’s degree in political science from Pennsylvania State University.  
 

Victoria Forlini has worked for more than 15 years in strategic and operational areas of associations. She has primarily focused on how a clearly communicated vision can elevate an organization and spark engagement from stakeholders. At FASEB, she directs the Office of Scientific Meetings and Conferences (OSMC) and takes on essential strategic work across the organization. In her previous roles, she has led several major revenue drivers and strategic initiatives, creating success and growth for her past organizations.

She has an MBA from Drake University, an MSJ from Northwestern University, and a BA from the University of Iowa, focusing on communications and Asian Languages and Literature.

Darla is the central business, operational, and thought leader for open science, research integrity, and publications. Recently, she led a science-first, scientist-centered response to public access plans across all FASEB member societies. Darla served in leadership positions at John Wiley & Sons and at the American Chemical Society as the first Head of Open Access. She is a frequent speaker at industry meetings and serves on multiple boards and committees. She holds a PhD in biological chemistry from Duke University and scholarly information works under her remit have earned 11 industry awards.

Sally Schwettmann has worked with scientists since 2007, with positions at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) and the National Academy of Sciences before joining FASEB in 2018. As Director for Governance and Leadership Development, Sally leads governance operations and manages FASEB’s strategic governance framework. She works alongside FASEB staff to ensure the Board and its committees and task forces are highly effective in performing their essential duties and governance responsibilities.

Susan Schiaffino is a proven human resource professional with experience in performance management, talent acquisition, employee relations, diversity and inclusion, federal and state employment law compliance, employee contract negotiations, employee benefits, compensation, payroll, training and development. She provides HR counsel and support to FASEB employees, as well as a select group of FASEB member society staff. 

Susan is an active member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and earned its Certified Professional designation in 2018. She is also a member of the Plan Sponsor Council of America and earned its Certified Plan Sponsor Professional designation in 2022.
 

Yvette Seger oversees FASEB’s science policy efforts and leads the development of strategic initiatives, including programs that advance diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusivity in the biological and biomedical research workforce. 

Prior to joining FASEB in 2013, Seger held senior policy positions at FasterCures, the National Institutes of Health, and Thomson Reuters. She holds a PhD in genetics from Stony Brook University and a BA in zoology (genetics concentration) and politics and government from Ohio Wesleyan University.
