FASEB Leadership and Staff

Michael N. Lehman is a distinguished neuroscientist whose pioneering research has advanced understanding of the neural regulation of reproduction and circadian rhythms. He currently serves as the Regents Endowed Professor and Chair of the Department of Biology at New Mexico Tech. Throughout his career, he has made landmark contributions to neuroendocrinology, authored more than 190 scientific publications, and mentored the next generation of researchers.

Eric Kelley is professor and associate chair of research in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at West Virginia University Health Sciences Center. Kelley is active in the Society for Redox Biology and Medicine (SfRBM), having served as vice president, councilor, and Young Investigator Award chair. He served simultaneously as SfRBM representative on the FASEB Board and was a member of the FASEB Science Policy Committee from 2017 to 2018, as well as two terms on the FASEB Executive Committee.

Melanie Scott, MD, PhD, is Associate Professor and Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She is a long-time active member of multiple FASEB members societies, and has served as Board Representative for The Shock Society since 2025 and is past president of Shock. She also represents Shock on the BioCore Executive Committee and Finance Committee.

Previously, Dr. Scott served as FASEB Science Policy Committee representative for American Society for Investigative Pathobiology (ASIP) and remains an active contributor to Shock, ASIP and SLB.

Judy Cannon is a Professor in the Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology and a Professor the Department of Pathology at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. An active advocate for biomedical research, she joined FASEB’s Science Policy Committee in 2022 as a representative of the American Association of Immunologists. 

Lique Coolen serves as Provost, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Vice President for Research at New Mexico Tech. An internationally recognized neuroscientist, her research focuses on reproductive neuroendocrinology and spinal cord injury, and she has published more than 140 peer-reviewed publications while earning recognition among the world’s most-cited scientists in her field.

Zanthia Wiley, MD, is Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Emory University and Associate Vice Chair for Community and Engagement in the Department of Medicine. A clinical researcher and leader in infectious diseases, her work focuses on Long COVID, vaccine confidence, and health equity, and she leads several NIH-funded research and training initiatives.

Clifford V. Harding, MD, PhD, is the Joseph R. Kahn Professor and Chair of Pathology at Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. An internationally recognized immunologist and pathologist, he has guided major research and training programs while advancing discoveries in immunology and infectious diseases.

Clinton Allred is a biomedical researcher whose work focuses on the role of diet and endogenous and exogenous sources of hormonal activity in the development and progression of epithelial-derived cancers. His research has advanced understanding of how dietary components influence colon physiology and disease through hormonal and molecular signaling pathways.

Joseph L. Cheatwood is Professor and Associate Chair of Anatomy and Neurobiology in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. A neuroscientist whose research focuses on neuroplasticity and recovery after brain injury, he is also an active leader in science policy and biomedical research advocacy through his service with FASEB. Dr. Cheatwood is also President-Elect of the Histochemical Society, a FASEB member society.

Darla P. Henderson brings forward-looking leadership, deep scientific expertise, and a strong commitment to scholarly societies. She leads efforts to expand the impact of FASEB’s advocacy, strengthen partnerships with member societies, and position the Federation for long-term sustainability. Henderson previously served as FASEB’s Chief Publishing, Open Science, and Research Integrity Officer, where she grew the reach and impact of FASEB’s products and revitalized research integrity initiatives. Prior to joining FASEB, she held senior leadership positions at John Wiley & Sons and the American Chemical Society, including as the first Head of Open Access. 

She holds a PhD in biological chemistry from Duke University and a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Appalachian State University. Henderson is an active member of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and the Council of Engineering and Scientific Society Executives (CESSE).
