About The FASEB Journal
Content & Influence
The FASEB Journal (FJ) is highly cited and consistently ranks among the top biology journals globally. Each month, FJ publishes peer-reviewed, multidisciplinary original research articles as well as timely editorials, reviews, and news of the life sciences. As disciplines in the life sciences continue to overlap, readers are
drawn to the journal for its interdisciplinary coverage.
The journal has been covered by major news outlets, such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Chicago Tribune, U.S. News and World Report, Reuters, National Public Radio, Voice of America, ABC News, Scientific American, Bloomberg News, MSNBC, and BBC News.
For media inquiries, please contact Cody Mooneyhan, Director of Publications, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 301.634.7104.
Currently, the journal’s five-year Impact Factor is 5.464 with a 2015 Impact Factor of 5.299. The FASEB Journal is the second most cited biology journal; among the top five in total articles published; among the top 10 biology journals as ranked by Immediacy Index; and among the top 5 as ranked by Eigenfactor Score.
“As FASEB’s flagship publication, The FASEB Journal is one of the world’s most important and influential scientific publications,” said Pederson. “It is handsomely multidisciplinary and stands as an intersection between and among the many specialty journals in the life sciences. During my tenure, I hope to build on the tremendous work of Dr. Weissmann and others who preceded me to increase the journal’s reach, influence, and impact.”
Pederson is the associate vice provost for research at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, where he also holds the Vitold Arnett Professorship in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Pharmacology, an endowed position. Before this position, he was the president of the Worcester Foundation for Biomedical Research, held the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America’s Scholar Award, and served on NIH’s Cell Biology and Molecular Biology study sections. In addition, he has served on editorial boards of The FASEB Journal, Journal of Cell Biology, and Molecular Biology of the Cell. He is an elected fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and of the American Academy of Microbiology, and has been awarded the Wilhelm Bernhard Medal and also the Medal of Charles University, Prague. He has served as the chair of the Keith Porter Endowment Fund in Cell Biology, and also as chair of the Research Awards Committee at the Marine Biological Laboratory, Woods Hole, Massachusetts. Pederson received his PhD in Zoology from Syracuse University and was an NIH postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Cell Biology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Pederson’s work as a scientist focuses on the functional significance of specific protein-RNA interactions in eukaryotic gene expression, with emphasis on RNA traffic and processing, as well as specialized domains within the cell nucleus. His laboratory is currently investigating the live cell dynamics of CRISPR gene-editing machinery as well as its potential applications to myotonic dystrophy and ALS.
“Dr. Pederson’s enthusiasm for the journal is infectious,” said Guy Fogleman, FASEB’s executive director. “The FASEB board unanimously approved Dr. Pederson’s appointment following a national search and recommendation of our Publications and Communications Committee. As we open this new chapter in the journal’s history, we look forward to the active and innovative leadership of our new Editor-in-Chief.”
