Nestled in a valley, Keystone Resort in Colorado will appeal to those looking for the “alpine” feel of a mountain town. Keystone, Colorado offers something for everyone during any season from beautiful mountain views of Dercum Mountain, to the quaint River Run Village in the heart of Keystone. As a family friendly resort town, Keystone has just about any activity you can think of.
Summer time in Keystone and the surrounding mountains is full of wonderful activities for families with younger children, couples and friends. The classic summer time activities in Keystone include mountain biking, hiking, swimming, tennis, horseback riding, golfing, fly fishing, sailing and more.
There are two 18-hole golf courses within three miles of the main village at River Run. For a little action, enjoy the thrill of downhill mountain biking. The gondola can take you to the top of the mountain so you can race to the bottom. There are outdoor pools, tennis courts, paddle boat rentals at Keystone Lake, and even a stable where you can take a trail ride with the whole family. Fly Fisherman will enjoy a quiet haven on the Snake River. Several other nearby rivers offer whitewater rafting. If you are looking to dive into area history and culture, take a day trip to nearby towns for tours and museums that highlight Colorado’s mining past.
If you do choose to pursue an outdoor activity, remember that weather in the mountains can change quickly, so you need to pack wisely and be prepared. Visitors to Keystone may need some extra time to acclimate to the higher altitude in the Rocky Mountains. Be sure to drink plenty of water, use sunscreen, and start off with lighter activities when you first arrive, gradually building up to more strenuous activities.
The average summer temperature in Colorado is 70-80° Fahrenheit (21-27° Centigrade) although the temperatures can drop into the 50's in the evening. Casual clothing is suggested. Afternoon showers are common; it may be helpful to bring raingear.
Child and Family Care Resources
FASEB provides detailed information for each conference site on the Science Research Conference (SRC) website and also provides venue information directly to each attendee. Although FASEB does not directly provide child care services, attendees are welcome to have guests (including spouses, children, nannies and babysitters) accompany them to the conference to provide such care. FASEB offers an alternative off-site registration fee at all conferences, to accommodate those with special family care needs (the off-site fee includes the conference and all meals but enables attendees to book their own accommodations). Both the FASEB and venue websites include information on nearby off-site accommodations that can assist attendees with locating licensed child care providers and daycare services. The venue management will also provide any assistance to attendees regarding child/family care issues or concerns. Each attendee is also encouraged to contact FASEB with any special needs that they may have.
