On April 4, FASEB submitted comments on the National Institutes of Health (NIH) draft Strategic Plan for Data Science (NOT-OD-18-134). FASEB affirmed that the five goals articulated in NIH’s strategic plan accurately reflect key challenges to modernizing the data resource ecosystem. To strengthen the plan and its implementation, FASEB offered the following four cross-cutting recommendations:
- Rapidly deploy at least minimal data standards across NIH databases and resources;
- Consider the long-tail of biological research data;
- Ensure NIH-wide coordination, participation, and leadership; and
- Involve FASEB and other stakeholders in the plan’s implementation and assessment.
