The House of Representatives will spend 113 days in Washington next year according to a press release issued by Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) announcing the 2014 legislative schedule. House members will begin the second session of the 113th Congress on January 7, and will continue their tradition of observing a one-week recess each month.  In addition, there will be a two-week recess in April over Easter/Passover, and the summer break is scheduled from August 1 – September 5. Another break will take place from October 3 – November 11 for the mid-term congressional elections.

Although the schedule shows no votes after December 12, a formal target adjournment date is not listed on the House calendar. The 2014 Senate calendar has not yet been released.
